Curiosities about the UK


1. The British adopted the habit of drinking tea in the seventeenth century, mainly because of the portuguese princess Catarina de Bragança, wife of King Charles II. By 1800, the Duchess of Bedford began the afternoon tea, a habit that remains today in society.

2. The United Kingdom won 85 Nobel Prizes in Science and Technology, the second country in the world with more medals, behind only the United States.

3. The famous double-decker buses have emerged in the nineteenth century, in Britain, in the year of the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, an event of cultural and industrial promotion. How many people wanted to get to the fair site, transportation of two floors, which were pulled by horses were bred, that before the engine size of the vehicles.

4.Many sports were originated in the United Kingdom. Among the most practiced nowadays are cricket, rugby, golf, badminton, tennis and, of course, football.

5. The UK is the birthplace of many bands and singers who changed the course of music in the world. Among the best known include: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Queen, The Who, Coldplay, Elton John, and the most influential band of all time, The Beatles!
